Estimates
Whilst it is true that each job must be priced individually, general guidelines are a basic day rate of £180 plus materials, which may offer you an idea of what the work you require may cost.
Quotes will be given on an individual basis according to the services required once we have had the opportunity to discuss your requirements and performed a preliminary home visit if necessary.
For general handyman work we charge £35 for the first hour and then £25 per hour thereafter, with a minimum charge of one hour. If you only require a simple job doing, we will schedule a time to carry out the work. You will only be charged for the time that we are there and for any materials that are needed to complete the work.
Telephone Quotations
In many cases, we'll be able to give you an idea of the cost of the work over the telephone. The price will usually include the cost of materials. If you prefer us to do the work with your materials, this is not a problem. Obviously, if we give an estimated cost without visiting the property, the cost is just that - estimated.
If you are happy with the indication of cost, we will schedule a visit to carry out the repairs/alterations and we will confirm the time and date of the visit. Once we are onsite and can see the actual job required, and before we begin the work, we will confirm if the estimated cost is correct. If there is an unacceptable difference between the original estimated cost and our appraisal, you are not committed to any contract. We want you to be completely happy that we have quoted a fair price for the work in hand. If you don't think that is the case, we will leave without any charge being made.
Home Visit Quotations
Jobs such as laminate floor laying or a whole bathroom retiling will obviously take longer to do and depend on the size and layout of the property. In these instances we recommend booking an appointment for a home-visit estimate. Once we have visited, we will deliver the quotation to your home or office within 24 hours.
Unforeseen Circumstances
As much as possible we intend to offer a quotation as near as we can to the original estimate, but sometimes things spring up that no one is prepared for. We can only look at each case in a light that is best with a good will intention. If, for example, you want a bathroom wall in an old property retiling, the estimate may indicate a cost for removal of the old tiles and replacement with new tiles. However, once the tiles have been removed, we may discover that the plaster also needs replacing. In this case you will be given a revised estimate on site before any further work is done.
Often it will not be possible to determine a cost during a telephone call with any true accuracy so we suggest one of two courses of action. When you have a number of fairly small jobs to do we recommend that you book us for our minimum of one hour. We will do what we can in that hour, and then assess the cost of doing the rest of the work. In this way, you'll be able to see first hand the quality of work from Bert and colleagues at 4b2 before making a commitment for any more, or larger jobs. We're sure you will not be disappointed.
